14X™ Tandem Drive Axle

14X™ Tandem Drive Axle

The next evolution of one of trucking's most successful axles is here! The Meritor® 14X delivers every benefit of its predecssor, the legendary RT-40-145 -- and more. Including a more robust, 20% larger Inter-Axle Differential to handle today's higher-torque engines. It also features as standard equipment, our premium Meritor Amboid™ design. And, it provides the fastest and most complete range of axle ratios - from 2.47 to 7.17. All at the lightest weight in its class.

Features & Benefits
More Robust, 20% larger, Inter-Axle Differential with the ability to handle up to 2,050 lb. ft. of torque in certain applications. Includes a new IAD needle bearings system for reduced heat and wear for increased reliability
Premium Amboid design is now standard. Provides improved driveline angles to reduce vibration and increase ride quality and overal component life
Most complete range of ratios in the industry. New 2.47 ratio is the fastest axle ratio in the industry and the most efficient solution for vehicles with direct drive transmissions. 2.47 - 4.11 Amboid pinion position; 2.64-7.17 Hypoid pinion position.
DualTrac™ housing offers ability to convert between wide-based single tires and duals within legal axle spread dimensions. Provides bearing life equal to dual-tire-configured tandem axles. Housing wall thickness options include 9.5 mm and 11.0 mm.
Industry-leading axle breather is designed for today's extended-drain synthetic lubes. Helps prevent water and other contaminants from entering the axle while keeping lube in place.

Planetary Hub Reduction Single and Tandem Drive Axles

Planetary Hub Reduction Single and Tandem Drive Axles

ArvinMeritor offers Meritor® Planetary Hub Reduction axles for extreme-duty applications such as logging, heavy haul, construction and yard tractor applications. These tandem axles are ideal when maximum traction is required with high gross combination weights.

Meritor Planetary Hub Reduction axles deliver superior axle performance thanks to our proven planetary wheel-end hub-reduction design. Due to a wider ratio offering, our axles meet customer demands for operational flexibility. Additionally, these axles offer significant weight advantage in both single and tandem versions.

Features & Benefits
Four-planet hub-reduction gearing design provides higher-capacity ratings
Utilizes a combination of a smaller ring gear and carrier assembly, providing increased ground clearance for maximum mobility in the most severe environments
Needle bearing design throughout interaxle differential provides spin-out protection and eliminates the need for a lube pump
Driver-controlled differential locks (DCDL) are standard in both the forward and rear axle for increased traction when needed
Optimized driveline angles reduce harsh drivetrain vibrations, providing longer life
Wide ratio range of 3.61:1–7.21:1 meets virtually any application for maximum spec’ing flexibility

Tandem Rear Drive Axles

Tandem Rear Drive Axles

For linehaul and city delivery applications, ArvinMeritor offers a full range of tandem drive axles from 34,000 lbs. to 50,000 lbs. GAWR. Meritor® tandem axles are built to handle the heavy loads while helping to reduce maintenance and operating costs. ArvinMeritor offers the widest selection of axle ratios with the availability of fast ratios for better fuel economy. And, when tag tandems are required for load distribution, ArvinMeritor can “custom-fit” virtually any application.

The lastest ArvinMeritor design – the MT-40-143MA-N – was designed to virtually eliminate vibration throughout the entire drivetrain. These axles were engineered with a rear carrier featuring Amboid gear designs providing above-centerline positioning of the drive pinion. This positioning significantly reduces inter-axle driveline angularity which, in turn, minimizes driveline vibration.

For construction and refuse applications, ArvinMeritor offers a full range of single-reduction tandem drive axles from 34,000 lbs. to 50,000 lbs. GAWR and double-reduction axles from 52,000 lbs. to 70,000 lbs. GAWR. With the widest range of ratios available, and fast axle ratios for improved fuel economy, it’s no surprise that Meritor® construction and refuse axles are the most-commonly spec’d in the industry.

Because vehicles in the logging and mining vocations are often required to haul extremely heavy loads, ArvinMeritor offers a wide variety of single-reduction tandem drive axles with gross axle weight rating (GAWR) capacities from 40,000 lbs. to 70,000 lbs.

Features & Benefits
Hypoid gearing for longer life, greater strength and quieter operation.
Rigid differential case for greater durability.
Industry-standard wheel ends for compatibility with both disc and drum brakes.
Unitized oil seal technology to keep lubricant in and help prevent installation and contaminant damage.
No initial lubrication-drop requirement to help reduce operating costs.
Optional driver-controlled differential lock (DCDL) available on most models for maximum traction.
Optional lightweight aluminum carrier for R-145.
Optional pressurized and filtered lubrication system.

Tridem Axles

Tridem Axles

Meritor® tridem axles, designed for the harshest environments, are ideal for applications requiring more tractive effort than can be provided by a conventional tandem axle. These applications can include construction, logging, heavy haul, and mining.

A tridem is a series of three driving axles configured as follows: #1 axle is the forward axle of a normal tandem axle set, and #2 and #3 axles are a normal tandem set.

A vehicle equipped with a tridem axle arrangement offers the same gross combination weight capability as a vehicle with a conventional tandem, however the three axles of the tridem significantly increase the tractive effort capacity.

Features & Benefits
Hypoid-Generoid gearing for longer life, greater strength and quieter operation.
Rigid differential case for greater durability.
Precision forged differential gears for durability and greater strength.
Optional driver-controlled differential lock (DCDL) available on most models for maximum traction.
Optional pressurized and filtered lubrication system for spin-out protection.
